PROJECTS The
LANL LECIS CORBA Prototype System Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) presented the first LECIS CORBA IDL prototype implementation at the LabAutomation'2000 meeting in Palm Springs, CA, USA, in January 2000. This prototype system consisted of a Zymark Twister (TM) universal plate handling robot and a generic instrument controller. Both system components supported the new LECIS CORBA IDL interface. The controller and Twister software were written in 100% pure Java. The prototype system made use of the standard CORBA Naming service. The CORBA Naming service enabled the instrument controller to locate the Twister instrument in the network at run-time, thereby achieving location transparent instrument control. For more information on the prototype system, contact Torsten Staab at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. A screenshot
